William F. Hyland, Jr., a partner, has focused his practice on commercial real estate, financing transactions and land development for over 40 years. He represents numerous local, regional and national land developers, non-profit organizations and homebuilders, appearing regularly before local planning and zoning boards throughout New Jersey, particularly in the tri-county area. He has also represented numerous lending institutions and borrowers in mortgage-related transactions, as well as purchasers and sellers of real estate.
Before his legal career, Bill worked for the then newly-created New Jersey Department of Community Affairs under its first Commissioner, Paul N. Ylvisaker. He moved on to become Assistant City Manager, then City Manager of Sparta, New Jersey and, at the time, was one of the youngest city managers in the country.
Areas of Practice
Admitted to practice in New Jersey and South Carolina (retired status), Bill is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association and the South Carolina Bar Association. Bill is named as a 2020 Best Lawyers in The Best Lawyers in America for Land Use and Zoning (2020). He has received the “AV®” preeminent peer review rating from Martindale-Hubbell.
Bill served in the New Jersey National Guard’s 63rd Army Band between 1969 and 1975. Active in the community, Bill serves on the Virtua Foundation Board of Trustees; he is Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Wiley Mission, a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CRCC) in Marlton, NJ; and formerly was a legal advisor to the Saints Prison Ministry. Bill previously served on the Board of Directors for Habitat for Humanity (Burlington County) and YMCA Camp Ockanickon in Medford.
For many years, Bill played music professionally, but confines his music activities today to choral singing. He formerly sang with the Grammy Award-winning Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir in New York. He was Music Director at Wiley Church for 25 years.
